Ryan was admitted to practice law in Texas in 1999, and was admitted to practice in the United States District Court for the Northern and Eastern Districts of Texas in 2006.

Ryan received a Juris Doctorate from South Texas College of Law in 1999. He received a Bachelor's of Business Administration from Texas A&M University in 1996.

Ryan is the author of "Causation Testimony by Nurses in Medical Malpractice Cases", a Continuing Legal Education (CLE) publication which was used at a Medical Malpractice Conference in November 2000. He has also participated in an Outward Bound Survival and Leadership Course.

Born in Gastonia, North Carolina, Ryan is married to Sandra Adair, a family practice physician in Flower Mound. He is also an avid sports fan and wine enthusiast.
